Top 10 Reasons A Woman Can Fail In Business:
1. Gossip and B****
It is amazing how many women in business still do this and is possibly the most damaging thing in their career. If you gossip about others you can be sure you will not be respected or trusted. People may agree with you but you may wake up and find they are gossiping about you too. Don’t put other people down whether they are male or female, it is very simply unprofessional.
2. Dress inappropriately
Work is no place for a fashion parade. Clothes that are appropriate for evening wear have no place in the professional world. Dragging yourself to work in track pants gives the impression that you don’t care. Don’t dress in a way that detracts from your professionalism. It is good to have your own style, but just think about why you are there.
3. Don’t bother to plan or set goals for yourself
Many women start out setting goals and then forget about them. Short-term and long -term goals need to be checked, and if necessary adjusted, regularly. Keep yourself on track. Plan your career, your year, your week and your day. The old adage is still true – if you fail to plan you plan to fail.
4. Be Subservient
Many women think that if they speak up they will be seen as bossy or aggressive. Quite the opposite is true. If you have something of value to say, then say it. No one ever advanced their career by being a doormat.
5. Fail to Prioritize
Some women think volunteering for everything will give the impression that they are hard workers. What happens though when you really do have too much to do and start to miss deadlines? Don’t put too much on your plate and always prioritize both in your business and home life.
6. Interrupt others
This is almost the opposite of the subservient woman. Listen to and empathize with others and you will be appreciated and listened to in return.
7. Ignore your personal life
Throwing everything into your business life to the detriment of your personal life leads to stress and eventually disappointment and burn-out. Every woman needs time out for herself and time to have fun. Plan for it if you want to stay ahead and be an interesting person.
8. Avoid public speaking
For many of us, speaking in public is terrifying. There will come a point though when you are going to have to give that report, or be asked to speak at a meeting or seminar. If you need to, take some courses in speaking to give you confidence.
9. Ignore criticism
If someone gives you criticism, take it with good grace. Take into account, who or where it is coming from and whether or not it is valid. If it is learn from it, if not just let it go.
10. Pretend to be Someone Else
If you try to be someone else it …Continue reading
